The Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine provides a one-stop destination for outpatient care and an ambulatory teaching environment that supports the University of Chicago’s leading medical education program. The project grew out of a two-year master planning effort on this urban campus.
Key Features
- Building comprises two six-story blocks that flank a series of central atria bounded by two towers at the major entrances.
- A second-level bridge and curved glass canopy animate the main entrance.
- Flexible floor plates provide shared practice space, systems, and amenities for various clinical modules and sub-specialties.
- Circulation corridors and waiting areas surround a four-story atrium and connect ambulatory suites to the west with diagnostic and treatment programs to the east.
- Glass curtainwall and a skylight bring natural light into the building's core and offer orienting views to the outdoors.
- Colored stone, cherry and mahogany woods, and patterned terrazzo floors reinforce a feeling of comfort and patient-centered care.
