The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center
Site and Facilities Plan, Columbus, OH
This master plan creates a 21st-century health sciences environment in which teaching, research, and clinical care flourish through interdisciplinary learning and collaboration. To accommodate a projected doubling of space, the plan proposes an incremental replacement and reorganization of many buildings on the 75-acre campus, including those for the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Nursing, and the School of Public Health.
Key Features
- Locates research facilities together to provide efficiencies and collegiality, and creates a dual adjacency to each discipline’s clinical counterpart to support translational medicine.
- Targets capital investment to wet research and clinical buildings by capitalizing on existing facilities for re-use as dry research, faculty offices, and administrative centers.
- New Health Sciences district will adjoin the Medical Center to the south and will site each college with a strong, individual presence on the new Health Sciences quadrangle.
- New Medical Education Center will house shared teaching laboratories, classrooms, and amenities.
