The Immune Disease Institute (IDI) is a non-profit, independent, Harvard-affiliated research institution renowned for its research on the immune defense and inflammation systems. This project creates a new identity and home for the IDI on the third floor of the LEED Gold-certified Center for Life Science | Boston, the United States' first speculative, high-rise, multi-tenant laboratory building—also designed by Tsoi Kobus Design.
Key Features
- Space consolidates four research groups previously housed in multiple locations.
- Facility comprises 70% lab (wet) space and 30% office (dry) space and is designed to accommodate biosafety level 2 and 3 research
- Each research group is served by open labs, associated support rooms, and adjacent office space; major shared support functions such as glass washing and environmental rooms are located to take advantage of the cost benefits associated with shared functions.
- Natural daylight and views, a vibrant color palette, and vertical and horizontal forms animate and enhance the public and research space.
- An active corridor leads to a generous lounge that features rich colors and a variety of seating to provide a welcoming environment for downtime.
