Cape Cod Hospital
Cancer Center and InPatient Cardiovascular Facility, Hyannis, MA
After a comprehensive review and update of the existing Cape Cod Hospital (CCH) Master Plan in 2018, Tsoi Kobus Design partnered with CCH to design the Vision 2022 project, a new Cancer Center and InPatient Cardiovascular facility. The strategic goal is to create a state-of-the-art facility that enhances the Hospital's visibility as a leading community-based comprehensive medical center.
In association with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the new facility will improve cancer care at CCH, and address patient acuity by broadening inpatient critical and acute care services, adding 100 inpatient beds on three floors above the new cancer center. The sixth floor houses an education center for multidisciplinary team collaboration and teaching.
Tsoi Kobus Design led benchmarking exercises identifying best practices and opportunities to create a strategic advantage and differentiation in the delivery of cancer care and inpatient services. The team organized "Best Practices" site visits to peer institutions and conducted workshops with stakeholders to reach consensus on operational and design innovation. The design team employed a human-centered design methodology and participatory process with clinicians, administration, and current and former patients to develop, synthesize, and implement qualitative information into key design solutions. Together, these processes will define the Guiding Design Principles for the Cancer Center and Inpatient Cardiovascular Facility.
