Faced with limited opportunities for expansion on campus, Brown University turned to nearby commercial properties to solve a pressing need for life scienes research space. Working with Tsoi Kobus Design, Brown delivered 35 laboratory modules to both preserve existing research funding commitments and capture new ones..
Key Features
- The project includes four fl oors of laboratory space, a barrier vivarium for immunecompromised rodents, and an analytical and imaging suite, which includes a 800 MHz NMR.
- The NMR is located in a two-story portion of the original building, which was structurally modifi ed with a pit to provide adequate geometry for magnetic fi eld limitation, as well as roof hatch access for instrument installation and replacement
- Strategic team planning process collapsed the traditional programming and planning phases into a four-week schematic design phase.
- Design/Build utilized for the fi rst time by Brown for a project of signifi cant size
- Brown’s fi rst off-campus research facility is located in the historic jewelry district of Providence
