Solomont Clinical Simulation and Nursing Education Center, Boston, MA

To address the Boston Medical Center's continuing strategic development and planning initiatives, vacated space that had housed the Emergency Department located on the first floor of the Newton Pavilion was developed into a clinical simulation facility. The state-of-the-art Center serves the medical school, including simulation practices in anesthesia, emergency medicine, OB/GYN, surgery, orthopedic surgery, as well as nursing education.

Key Features

  • Three simulation rooms to accommodate high-tech simulators (mannequins) and associated control rooms.
  • Classroom space for 35 - 40 students.
  • Two task trainer rooms for 20 students.
  • Three inpatient rooms, including ICU space for critical care training.
  • Office space including allocations for A/V tech personnel that manage the sophisticated software associated with the simulators.
  • Storage space for change-out and repair of equipment.
  • The location of this Center within the existing vacated (ED) space made for an ideal fit, due to the infrastructure that existed including the headwall medical gas services, OR lights, glass-front patient rooms, etc., all of which were repurposed.
