OSF HealthCare, Saint Francis Medical Center
OSF Cancer Institute and Proton Therapy Center, Peoria, IL
Tsoi Kobus Design is partnering with the Order of Saint Francis (OSF) HealthCare to realize their vision for a new Cancer Institute on their main campus. Promoting a collaborative care concept focusing on the holistic themes of wellness and prevention, the five-story, 190,000-sf facility will provide interdisciplinary cancer treatment and house telehealth capable exam/consult suites, infusion, diagnostic and treatment modalities, and proton beam therapy.
The Institute features a compact, single-room proton therapy system manufactured by Varian Medical Systems— the third system to be delivered in the US. In addition to proton therapy, the facility will feature an interoperative HDR Brachytherapy Suite with direct access to dual-energy CT-on-rails and MRI. The Institute also includes a new parking structure with approximately 1,000 spaces.
At the heart of design are spaces dedicated to programs for wellness and prevention; disease prevention is a guiding principle, woven into all aspects of the design. The facility offers stunning views and access to a new patient garden, and the Garden Level provides an open teaching kitchen adjoining an exterior vegetable and healing garden, community rooms for patient education, survivorship programs, and exercise, and a resource center for access to digital information.
